Funding allocated to improve technology facilities in libraries – Daly

Cork South West Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jim Daly, has today confirmed that libraries in West Cork are to receive vital funding to improve their technology facilities.
“My ministerial colleague Michael Ring, has confirmed to me this morning that he has made over €140,000 available to public libraries in Cork County. This investment will enhance ICT infrastructure, create new meeting spaces with state of the art technology and provide dedicated digital learning suites.”

The funding will allow libraries to purchase equipment such as iPads, tablets and other smart devices along with software to support those interested in coding and design. Libraries will also be able to use the funding to develop meeting spaces bringing them to the forefront with new technologies.

“Todays investment in our public libraries will attract new users of all ages across West Cork. There is a demand today for digital learning supports and technology equipment such as iPads, tablets and podcasting equipment, and this funding will allow libraries in West Cork to meet that demand.”

Minister Daly concluded by saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the library staff in West Cork for their ongoing commitment and support that they provide to our communities. Public libraries are an invaluable resource to the community and todays investment will ensure that this resource will continue to meet with the everyday requirements of the public.”
