Flood Prevention in West Cork, Top of Agenda for Minister Brian Hayes

Minister Brian Hayes accompanied by officials from the OPW visited West Cork to examine the issuess in the area and in particular the threat of flooding to the towns of Skibbereen, Clonakilty and Bandon. Minister Hayes gave ample time to listen to the concerns of the local committees and was able to supply the latest updates in relation to the progress of each of the schemes.
The Minister Confirmed that he and his government are committed to putting in place a scheme to fix the flooding issues in these towns for once and for all but this would take time as certain procedures had to be adhered to ensure they arrive at a viable and permanent solution. The Minister acknowledged that affected property owners were very anxious in the interim, he said that the OPW was absolutely committed to this issue and that his department would be in possesion of the completed report by the end of September this year and he would expect work to be under way in 2013.
